Lake of the Prairies

Lake of the Prairies is approximately 6,150 hectares and is one of Manitoba’s largest reservoirs. Located 5km west of Roblin, the 67-kilometre long Lake of the Prairies was constructed in 1968 as a Provincial flood control measure by the impounding of the Assiniboine River near the Shell rivers. The resulting Lake of the Prairies developed into a premier angling lake that offers walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, common carp, rock bass, mooneye, and many more. There are many private campgrounds including Ricker’s Campground, Lost Meadows Resort, Pyott’s West Campground, Kilman Resort, and Asessippi Beach and Campground; many of which provide a variety of services and boat launches. Asessippi Provincial Park lies on the south side of the lake where exists a government campground and public boat launch. Great shore fishing exists throughout the reservoir however much of the shoreline is surrounded by private land. The most popular shore fishing spots exist at Togo Bridge (SK), north of Ricker’s Campground, Asessippi Bridge (Shell River), and below the Shellmouth Dam (Assiniboine River). In winter, ice fishing opportunities exist throughout the system. Patches Bait and Tackle provide ice shack rentals.
